This year we are celebrating 90 years of the Red Box, which forms the basis of the partnership between the Mill Hill Missionaries and Missio. Over the decades what went into the Box was, and is for many, a sacrifice.
And what came out of the Box went to support the missionary work of the Church and to Catholic communities across the world that are struggling.
They struggle because they are based in poorer areas of the world,
or because they are persecuted, or because they are very young and still establishing themselves.
It is through the Red Box that the Church in Africa, Asia, South America and Oceania has been able to blossom and flourish, and in turn take up the call to mission.
Through the Red Box, you have built churches, presbyteries, convents, schools, children’s homes, health centres and dispensaries; as well as trained local priests, sisters and catechists, and contributed to thousands of other projects that have helped the Church grow in service to those in need.
However, we are so much more than a charity that raises funds. The Pope tasks Missio with helping all Catholics discover and respond to the ‘call to mission’ received at baptism. We share the joys and sorrows experienced by our sisters and brothers overseas and build bridges of prayer, solidarity and friendship.
For over 200 years, since 1825, Missio has been an invaluable support to Catholic communities in every mission country. And since 1866, the Mill Hill Missionaries have been sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who do not know him in many of these countries.
Upon reading the Mission Today Impact Report, you will be amazed that, together, we continue to make such a significant difference in our world. Through your prayers, solidarity and donations, the world is a better place for knowing and serving Jesus Christ.
Thank you for your generous support. Long may the Red Box continue as a clear and present sign of our commitment to the mission Jesus has given us.
With every blessing,
Fr Anthony Chantry
Missio National Director
