Gifts in Wills fund one in four Missio projects. During Catholic Legacy Week, discover how leaving a gift in your Will can keep faith alive across the world.

For many of us, faith is the greatest gift we have ever received. It has shaped who we are and sustained us through life’s joys and struggles; rooting us in the love of God, who never abandons his people.

With your help, Missio continues to share that same gift of faith with communities across the world; often in the most challenging circumstances. During Catholic Legacy Week, we’re inviting you to help keep that faith alive – by leaving a gift in your Will.

What is Catholic Legacy Week?

Catholic Legacy Week brings together more than 20 Catholic charities and dioceses, including Missio, to encourage Catholics to consider leaving a gift in their Will to a cause that is close to their heart.

What do you want your Catholic legacy to be?

A gift in your Will is not just a donation. It is a declaration of faith; a sign of hope passed on to the generations who come after you.

A quiet miracle

Gifts left in our supporters’ Wills fund one in four Missio projects. Quietly, powerfully, they sustain the Church’s mission across the world. They allow missionaries, priests and religious sisters to live and work alongside communities, responding during crises and helping people overcome the injustice, violence and poverty which deny them their God-given dignity.

Big or small, every legacy gift matters.

Simpler than you think

You don’t need to be wealthy. Even a small bequest makes a real difference.

A residuary gift – a share (percentage) of your estate after all other payments and/or gifts have been made.  Over time the intended value of these gifts will remain more stable.

A specific gift – a fixed sum of money left to us in your Will. Over time, the intended value of these gifts will naturally decrease (due to inflation).

We recommend speaking with a qualified solicitor. Missio cannot offer legal advice, but we’re happy to talk through how your gift could make a difference and to provide any information your solicitor may need.

 FAQs

What is a gift in a Will? A legacy or bequest is a gift to a charity that takes effect after your death – one of the most powerful ways to support the work you believe in.

Will it affect what I leave to my family? No. A specific bequest is a fixed amount and doesn’t affect what others receive. A residuary share would be made after all other gifts have been made. A solicitor can advise on the right approach for your circumstances.

How will we use your gift? Your gift will support missionaries, priests and religious sisters working in some of the world’s poorest and most challenging communities – helping to reveal God’s love and enabling people to overcome injustice, violence and poverty. Every gift, however large or small, is directed where the need is greatest.

What if I haven’t made a Will yet? Catholic Legacy Week is a wonderful prompt to finally make a Will. We always recommend using a qualified solicitor.
