Africa, children, Mission Together

Almost a third of Missio’s annual income comes from legacies.

We depend entirely on donations, so the gifts people leave us in their Wills could not be more important. Your gift is an enduring legacy of love, faith and hope for the future.

‘The joy of the Gospel is for all people… Do not be afraid to go and to bring Christ to the fringes of society, even to those who seem farthest away.’
Pope Francis

Legacies provide vital support for missionaries, who often risk their lives to bring hope to poor and isolated communities. They mean we can plan long-term projects, like building clinics, orphanages, schools and chapels. They help us bring spiritual and practical support to families torn apart by war and conflict.

Even after our pilgrimage on earth has ended, our legacies can live on as witness to Christ’s love.

Why create a Will?

A Will enables you to provide for your loved ones and the causes that are close to your heart. It ensures your final wishes will be respected. A Will can spare your family unnecessary distress and uncertainty. And when you have everything in place, it can bring you peace of mind too.

Homemade Wills aren’t advisable; even small mistakes can invalidate them. It’s best – and relatively inexpensive – to use a regulated and insured professional solicitor.

Giving to Missio

If you wish to remember Missio in your Will, you can leave a ‘pecuniary bequest’ (a fixed sum of money), or a ‘residuary bequest’ (a gift in your Will of what is left of your estate after all your bequests have been made and the cost of winding up your affairs has been met). Please use the following wording:

‘I bequeath to Missio (23 Eccleston Square, London SW1V 1NU, Registered Charity Number 1056651), the sum of £….. and/or x proportion of my residuary estate; and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or National Director (for the time being) shall be a good discharge to my Executors.’

If you would like to talk in complete confidence about leaving a legacy to Missio, please call Monica Caro on 020 7821 9755. Alternatively, you can email legacy@missio.org.uk and we can send you our legacy leaflet, with no obligation.

The leaflet includes more information and advice as well as details of how to leave a legacy to one of our four branches, or to Mill Hill Missionaries. We don’t share your information with other organisations, and if you’re not already on our mailing list, we won’t write to you again unless you ask us to.

Missio’s commitment

When you give to Missio you’re giving to people who work to the highest level of commitment and accountability. Working through the Catholic Church and directly through local bishops in mission dioceses, we ensure funds go wherever they are most needed, as quickly and efficiently as possible.

You will be remembered in prayer

Missio’s deceased benefactors are remembered at Mass in our London office chapel. Their names are included in our memorial books.

Every November, Missio celebrates Mass in remembrance of, and thanksgiving for, benefactors who have left a legacy to Missio in their Will.

Missio is the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission and part of the worldwide network of Pontifical Mission Societies. We do not receive grants from the Government or EU sources, or keep investments.
