George Omondi
It is with great sadness that we report the death of George Omondi, guardian of Nyalenda parish in Kenya. He was killed at the weekend during a robbery.
The 47-year-old father of five, was shot several times in the head and neck by bandits, who were trying to enter Fr George Kraakman’s house, a Dutch Mill Hill Missionary.
The parish is in a slum area of the city of Kisumu, in the west of Kenya.
Fr George (right) was woken by noise in the night. He found the guardian in a pool of blood. He was transported immediately to hospital, but sadly there was nothing the doctors could do but note his death.
An increase in violent crime
The people who broke into the house stole food from the refrigerator. Police have recently intensified their control in the area, where there has been an increase in violent crimes.
The famine affecting east Africa is having an impact in Kenya. Half of its territory is affected by drought. President Kenyatta has deployed the army in the counties of Laikipia and Baringo, in the Rift Valley, to support the police trying to stop the violence between farmers and herders which has seen at least 21 people killed since February.
Please join us in praying for the repose of the soul of George Omondi, for his family and children, the Mill Hill Missionaries and the whole community.
