First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

– Luke 1:26-27

Thought for the day

The Lord proposed and Mary said Yes. Her ‘yes’ resounds through the centuries – the moment that changed everything. Today, missionaries still say ‘yes’ to God’s proposal; to put their future in his hands and trust that he will lead them.

Sister Nirmala currently runs the Marialaya project, a name which means ‘House of Mary’. Like Mary, Sr Nirmala and her fellow Sisters have said ‘yes’ to God’s call, and dedicated themselves to serving his people – our sisters and brothers –  through word and action.

A trained social worker, Sr Nirmala runs street school projects to help children who are not allowed to attend school because they have no fixed address.

She previously worked in a different area of India, working on a project to prevent child marriages, as well as being called overseas to bring God’s love to children in Russia and Bosnia who had no-one to look after them.

Sr Nirmala has put her trust in God, and God leads her to the people who need her help. We give thanks for her ‘yes’ and for the yes of our missionary family around the world.
