A new year, a new you? Not necessary. The ‘you’ that already exists is exactly who God needs! But here are a few suggestions to enter this special Jubilee year with a focus on God, and how you can become a ‘Pilgrim of Hope’.
Prayer journaling with scripture
Set aside 15 minutes each morning to write reflections on a single Bible verse, focusing on how God’s Word speaks to your daily life. This practice will help deepen your relationship with sacred scripture, and you’ll have a personal response to the Word of God. You could start with these Scriptures about Hope, gathered specially for Jubilee 2025.
Digital ‘Sabbath’ for sacred time
Choose at least one Sunday each month to completely disconnect from digital devices, dedicating those hours to attending Mass, reading spiritual texts, and having meaningful conversations with family, friends, or loved ones about faith. This modern take on keeping the Sabbath ‘holy’ helps create some sacred space in our hyperconnected world.
Reaching out to those in need
Commit to a specific, regular act of kindness each month. This could be serving at a soup kitchen or food bank, visiting the elderly, or even becoming a volunteer for Missio – collecting Red Boxes, promoting appeals, or visiting schools to talk to children about mission throughout the world. It’s a beautiful thing to connect our personal faith with active service, living out Christ’s call to share hope and love with all.

A Contemplative Commute
When you are on social media, make it count! Transform your daily commute into a time of prayer by praying the Mission Rosary. You can join us each Monday on Facebook and Instagram, or for a daily decade on X (Twitter). Join our social media pages and swap scrolling for spiritual connection this year.
Interfaith Bridge-building
Make an effort to learn about other faith traditions while sharing your Catholic faith journey with others. This could involve attending interfaith dialogues, inviting non-Catholic friends to Mass, or participating in community service projects with other religious groups. It could also be as simple as praying for people of all faiths and none, bringing their needs to God, and thanking God for the richness they bring to our lives and our world.
Pope Francis reminds us that respecting other people’s faith and beliefs is crucial in building up a world where we can all share our faith with joy. Our actions speak louder than words, and St Francis invites us to ‘preach the Gospel at all times: where necessary, use words!’
We wish you a happy, peaceful and joyous 2025!
