We can’t say it enough – Missio volunteers are amazing. Without their dedication, commitment and hard work, we simply could not do what we do. Over the coming months, we’ll be paying tribute to individuals who have shared their stories and thoughts with us. Here is Mary’s story…

Mary is the Local Secretary for Christ the Prince of Peace parish in Weybridge. She’s been volunteering for Missio for 52 years! Mary tells us:

“I was working as a PA for BOAC Airlines at Heathrow and after an inspiring appeal in 1969 by Fr Pharro MHM, I began my volunteering for Missio as a Promoter. It was perfect for me as I could do it in my own time and I felt like I was giving something back to the Church.

“I was asked to become Local Secretary in 1986 and have been enjoying it ever since!

I’m 83 now so I have been nurturing a younger replacement to take over after the summer. Someone who is more tech savvy is needed! As long as I can still walk, I’ll still look after my list of Red Boxes.

Mary's original APF book Mary still has her first ever Promoters book from 1969, and sent us this picture

Thank you for everything you do, Mary! You’re an absolute legend!
