Day of Many Colours: Celebrating God’s global family

The Day of Many Colours (#DOMC) is a day for children to celebrate their place within God’s global family. Based on the five colours of the Mission Rosary, this joyful day encourages children to unite in prayer with their sisters and brothers in Africa; the Americas; Europe; Oceania; and Asia.

The Day of Many Colours is organised by our children’s branch, Mission Together, traditionally held on or around 29 June, and similar days are held around the world. They each share the same aim: to develop in children a missionary spirit of attention towards others, through prayer, charity, and action. We love seeing how schools and pupils celebrate their faith and our sisters and brothers around the world! Here are some highlights…

Houses of many colours

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Durham have supported the Day of Many Colours for several years. This year, rather than order the Little Red Boxes as they have in the past, the school council decided to practise the spirit of Laudato Si’. Theycreated their own large collecting houses, linked to their school houses, to cut down on use of card and paper. Pupils donated into their shared house box, and took part in an inter-house ‘heaviest box’ competition!


The focus of the school’s celebration was their assembly and prayer time, where pupils prayed for children on every continent. Well done, everyone, for your prayers and fundraising. What a fantastic effort!

A literal Living Rosary

To mark their Day of Many Colours, pupils at Christ the King Primary School, Cardiff recreated a human Mission Rosary in the Playground! Dressed in Mission Rosary colours, the whole school joined together to express their friendship and support for all children around the world. What a beautiful way to express our global unity as one big family in Jesus. Well done everyone – thank you so much for joining us.
