As the Pope’s official charity for World Mission, Missio is unique in its commitment to supporting each and every seminary in the missionary world; a challenge set by Pope Pius XI in 1922 and still embraced by Missio today. We also have a special relationship with seminaries in India, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria and Sri Lanka. This message comes from Fr Peter, Rector of Christ the King Major Seminary in Kenya:

Greetings from Christ the King Major Seminary in the Archdiocese of Nyeri – Kenya! We as a community are doing well and we thank God for his providence the whole of this year.

To our benefactors from Missio, we thank you most sincerely for your enormous support that we have received from you all these years. May our good Lord bless your generosity.

Updates from 2023

In 2023 our country experienced drought and also inflation, and everything became more expensive even to a point that we had to adjust in various ways in order to accommodate our budget and sail smoothly through. But the past year was successful despite the challenges we faced.

Five of our seminarians were ordained as Deacons in the last semester of their formation. They then went on to exercise their deaconate ministry in the Seminary for one semester, before going to their dioceses. We are happy that they will be ordained to Priesthood in November.

Message from a student:

May I take this opportunity to greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope that you are all is well and that the Lord in his infinite goodness has granted you good health.

God’s graces have always been sufficient in guiding me as I continue to respond to His call with docility of heart. I know by the grace of God and support from friends like you, I will ascend to the altar of the Lord. I am sincerely glad and thankful to you, for journeying with me as I continue to heed to God’s call and conform to His will. I assure you of my prayers in all you do, that the good Lord may keep you safe, steadfast in faith and in His service.

I take this early opportunity to wish you a prosperous and happy 2024.

The need for practical help

It is our hope that 2024 will bring good tidings in matters of growth in faith for our people, and in the increase of vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life. This year we had many applications from good and faithful young men who desired to join the seminary, but unfortunately we couldn’t admit them all due to lack of accommodation. It is our prayer that the new year will continue to give us more vocations and encourage people of good will to support us in increasing our capacity.

We thank God for his providence during this past year. And to our benefactors from Missio, we thank you most sincerely for your enormous support that we have received from you all these years. Pass our regards to the whole fraternity of Missio and assure them of our prayer. We wish you all a wonderful and a prosperous 2024.

Message from a student: Br Francis

Greetings, I am writing this letter in appreciation for the support that Missio has accorded me throughout my theological studies and priestly formation.

I am from the Archdiocese of Kisumu and am currently undertaking my studies and priestly formation at Christ the King Major Seminary. I am at the final year of my formation,  that is the eighth year, and am also a beneficiary of the Missio programme and sponsorship.

I would like to acknowledge the support that you have accorded me throughout my theological studies. Your financial and spiritual support has been of great help and beneficial since it has enabled me to undertake my studies efficiently and effectively without any major hiccup. I sincerely thank Missio for blessing me with such a wonderful family in faith, and may the good Lord bless you and see you through all your endeavours.
