The season of Lent is almost upon us. So surely February is the month to clear out the cupboards, whip up some pancakes and get ready to flip out for Missio!
Whether you’re at home with your family, at school or in the office, we’re inviting everyone to join our ‘Flipping Fantastic Fundraiser’ once again! That means you, your family, student or parish group, chaplaincy, community and friends, from the littlest sibling to great-grandparents.
Here are all of our flipping fantastic ideas to take your fundraising to the next level.
Flipping Fantastic – the basics
All you need to do is:
- Use our sponsor form (or use Just Giving) to collect some sponsors
- Make your pancake, then flip it as many times as you can!
- Share it with us on social media, using the hashtag #MissioPancake and tag us @MissioUK
- Collect your sponsorship money and send it to Missio. You can also give to our Mission Together Lent Campaign via Just Giving. Click here to find out more.
And of course, enjoy eating your pancakes… provided you haven’t dropped them!
You can do your flip any time up to and including Shrove Tuesday – it does not have to happen on the day. And while we love sharing your photos and videos, if you’re feeling camera-shy, don’t worry. As long as your sponsors are happy you’ve done your flips, so are we!
Little Flippers
We know hot pans and sugary dough might not be the best idea for our littlest fundraisers – and flipping them can be quite hard! Last year, some of our fundraisers had the great idea to use pancakes made from felt – in a toy pan – to enable littlest family members to join the fun.

Pan Out
If a pancake flip isn’t what you’re looking for, or if just flipping a pancake isn’t enough, why not hold a pancake breakfast or supper with your school or parish community, and ask supporters for a donation to join?
Or how about making it a Global Family Pancake event, using toppings inspired by the 5 continents? Here are some of our favourites to get you started:
- Marshmallows on the Bra’ai: A popular (and madly indulgent!) South African dessert using marshmallows and Bar One – a bar a little like a Mars Bar: add marshmallows to your pancake. Chop up a Mars Bar or similar and melt in the microwave, going in slow increments and stirring regularly. Drizzle over the top.
- Pavo de limao: Based on the Brazilian desert, this is a great way to up your game on lemon and sugar! Drizzle condensed milk, a squeeze of lime juice, and lime zest to taste.
- Tarte Tatin: Add a little French flair! Caramelise some diced sweet apples in a pan with a capful of vanilla and a pinch of cinnamon. Flip onto your pancakes. Nobody would judge you for a side of vanilla ice cream.
- Payasam pancakes: Inspired by delicious Indian sweet treats – Mix a dot of rose essence or flavouring and a pinch of ground cardamom with your pancake mix. Drizzle a little rose syrup onto the pancakes. Top with almonds, sultanas, grated coconut and a sprinkle of brown sugar.
- Lamington pancakes: Possibly one of the best Australian inventions ever, lamingtons are a popular treat that originated in Queensland! For a pancake twist, you could spread a little strawberry jam or cream on your pancake, then drizzle over chocolate sauce and sprinkle with some coconut to finish!
Do share photos of your event using the #MissioPancakes hashtag!
