The Word was made flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that is his as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.
– John1:1-18
On the Seventh day in the Octave of Christmas, we ponder the implications of the Word made flesh. Not just once, two thousand years ago, but in each and every one of us since. We each have the opportunity – the mission – to be God’s Word in the world.
“For the Son of God became man so that we might become God.”
– Catechism of the Catholic Church
Prayer for the Seventh day of the Octave
God in Heaven
You created us in your image: we are your Word.
We pray for those unable to feel the joy of living in you,
or to see their own inherent dignity.
May we create a culture where we recognise all people’s beauty and value:
reflections of you in the world.
Amen.
Focus for reflection
Today our focus is joy. The joy of being children of God.
Find a quiet place. Perhaps light a candle. Tomorrow is the last day of the Octave of Christmas. How we can take the joy of this beautiful season forward through the year?
