The shepherds hastened to Bethlehem, where they found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.

-Entrance Antiphon

Today is the 3rd day of the Octave of Christmas and the Feast of the Holy Family. When Mary and Joseph present Jesus in Jerusalem, others recognise the significance of this family group. But after they had fulfilled their obligations, the family return to Nazareth, to their own home, where Jesus’ parents can nurture and teach him as he grows.

‘Christian families are missionary families… They are missionary in everyday life, in their doing everyday things, as they bring to everything the salt and the leaven of faith!

– Pope Francis

Prayer for the Feast of the Holy Family

Heavenly Father,

Inspired by the Holy Family,

we pray that our own families may work to live in faith and simplicity,

finding joy in being together and welcoming others.

Amen.

Focus for today:

Today our focus is inclusion. May we follow the Holy Family’s example, embracing all as family.

Find a quiet place. Perhaps light a candle.

Take a moment to reflect on the beauty of inclusion, and how we can welcome all God’s family as our own.
