Children’s prayers and big smiles brought us much happiness and hope as we celebrated this year’s Day Of Many Colours during lockdown. The Day of Many Colours is our annual Mission Together awareness day, coinciding with the Feast of the Church’s two great missionaries, St Peter and St Paul (29 June).

A huge ‘thank you!’ to everyone who took part.

Mission Rosary

Every day of the last week of June, pupils at home and in schools joined our online Mission Rosary, praying for our wider family around the world. By the end of the week pupils had prayed for children in all 5 continents, uniting with one another in love and friendship.

St Gerard’s school in Birmingham tweeted that as well as praying the Mission Rosary together, the children made giant paper chain Rosaries too.

Reaching Out Activity

It was wonderful to see so many children waving their colourful friendship hands in our Reaching Out Activity on which they had written warm greetings from around the world. Holy Spirit School in Liverpool Archdiocese tweeted their Reaching out pictures and said:

‘We loved sharing our hugs today with the rest of the world!’

‘All different, all valued, all loved’

We are especially grateful to schools in Plymouth, Birmingham and Salford Dioceses for their participation in the week. Tony Armstrong, Mission Together’s Diocesan Director for Plymouth Diocese, said:

‘It was brilliant to see such engagement from Plymouth Diocese schools – and seeing the wonderful posts from other Dioceses too. In such unfamiliar times it was great to see young people to get involved both from in school and from home. We are a large Diocese and we had young people involved from Bodmin across to Poole in Dorset!’

Helen Armstrong, head teacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary in Poole said:

‘It was lovely to see the enthusiasm of the young people both at home and in school being Children Helping Children.’

Keyham Barton Catholic Primary School in Plymouth summarised the week perfectly when they told us:

‘All different, all valued, all loved, is the wish we have for every child on the planet’.

We could not have said it better ourselves! Thank you to you all of you for a really special week.
